Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day when people around the world remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust. The day also commemorates the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and in the more recent genocides recognised by the UK government, and the genocide in Darfur. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
At Torfield we have embraced this year’s theme of Holocaust Memorial Day, for a better future, by updating our history curriculum to include the history of Anne Frank. This is so that our pupils are able to learn from and about the Holocaust and take actions to make a better future for all.
