Torfield - Kung Hei Fat Choy!

At Torfield School, we ensure our pupils have the opportunity to learn about and enjoy celebrating a range of religious and cultural festivals throughout the school year and Chinese New Year is no exception.

The staff planned an amazing selection of activities for the pupils to take part in across the week.  Children designed beautiful Chinese lanterns to decorate the hall and their classrooms.  Chinese script was practiced in classes. Chinese money pockets were designed and created. The story at the heart of the celebration was shared and re-enacted.

The highlight of the week was the day of the Croft Road dragon parade.  Mrs Camoccio supported the formation of the dragon with each class, then guided the many legged beast around the hall. Whilst the dragon performed around the hall, a team of year 5/6 drummers encouraged the movements with their drumbeats.  A delicious lunch of sweet and sour with noodles added to the day’s experience, as did the fortune cookies enjoyed in class.
